21-29 Mei 2017
Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction is a two-yearly forum that is one of the world’s leading forums to commit to disaster risk reduction and build community and nation resilience. The forum is aimed at formulating strategic advice, coordination, partnership development, and reviewing the implementation of international instruments in disaster risk reduction, including the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. The forum was attended by more than 5000 participants from all over the world at a conference held at the Moon Palace Hotel Cancun, Mexico, on May 23-26, 2017.
Furthermore, as a result of the Work Session and commitment in science and technology in disaster risk reduction associated with the 2030 sustainable development strategy, the Paris Agreement, and the New Urban Agenda, this session reports the political statement to the platform, held on May 26, 2017. In the process of completion, all members of the panelists/speakers and co-Chairs were asked to provide input in accordance with the results of the discussions and presentations at the workshop session. In its input, LIPI affirms the importance of serious investment in science and technology related to very weak aims of disaster risk reduction in underdeveloped and developing countries, the importance of conducting in-depth studies of each disaster event to measure performance outcomes of Disaster Risk Reduction, the need to involve all sectors, and especially women, children, youth and vulnerable groups in science work and disaster risk reduction, especially as the spearhead of science communication.
In particular, LIPI was again requested by UNISDR to be able to read the statement of the Working Group on Science and Technology, on May 26, 2017, at Arena E.
